Community Services and Mental Health Worker Diploma Program Overview
In just 62 weeks, you’ll gain the skills and insight to support at-risk individuals in your community. You’ll build a strong foundation in psychology, sociology, addictions and mental health and learn how to assess clients, offer support and help create positive change in people’s lives.
You’ll take courses like Canadian Family Dynamic, Community Services in Canada, Crisis Intervention, and Program Planning. These will give you valuable tools to assess risk, respond to mental health challenges, and plan personalized support programs for people in need.
An 8-week practicum is included in the program. This gives you real experience in a community setting where you can apply what you’ve learned and prepare for the workforce.
After graduation, you may explore roles such as Support Worker, Outreach Worker, Peer Support Worker or Shelter Counsellor. You could work in places like mental health centres, addiction programs, residential facilities, group homes, or community organizations.

As part of your training, you’ll also earn field-related certifications, including Verbal Intervention, Positive Space Training, Naloxone Administration, Helping Trafficked Persons, Risk Assessment and Management, Mental Health First Aid, Standard First Aid, CPR, Suicide Prevention and Risk Assessment & Management (SPRAM).
